Saving the planet doesn't have to cost the earth

As the credit crunch hits cash-strapped homeowners hard, an industry expert is struggling to convince consumers that saving the planet doesn't have to cost the earth.

Adam Vaughn, author of smartplanet and the greenguy, is keen to point out that whilst some green measures will have an up front cost, they will pay dividends in the end and could result in significant savings.

Mr Vaughn said: "I think the government needs to take green measures to individuals more and get more involved, and I think people like me need to dispel the money myths about green measures."

According to the author, although installing loft insulation would set most homeowners back £500, it would have paid for itself within five years.

Individual action can make a significant difference to savings and the environment, the Energy Saving Trust has revealed.

The trust showed that if every homeowner that needed wall cavity insulation had it installed carbon dioxide emissions would be cut by seven million tonnes.
