Men are the Ian Beales of the savings world
17th June 2008
A fifth of men have compared their spending habits to those of EastEnder's character, Ian Beale, a new survey has revealed.
British men apparently like to be careful with their cash. The survey, commissioned by Scottish Widows, found that 20 per cent of blokes would describe themselves as "tight" or "careful" with money.
Mike Hoban, customer & brand marketing director of Scottish Widows, said: "It's great that so many men see themselves as financially responsible, but they have to make sure that what they are doing with any savings pays off in the long term."
Careful planning and regularly depositing money into a savings account is, according to Mike Hoban, the way to avoid "running into a financial crisis in later years".
Whilst men are thrifty, it seems their female counterparts are less so as 17 per cent of women said that like Eastenders character Honey Mitchell, they are "always short of money".
It seems though that shopaholics who aspire to be like Carrie Bradshaw and David Beckham may have been deterred by the credit crunch as only six per cent of those polled said they could identify with those high-profile spendaholics.
