Mortgage lender poll shows homeowners making improvements to sell property

26th June 2008

As the news is flooded with stories of a stagnant housing market, a leading mortgage provider has announced that 3.25 million? homeowners are looking to move in the next 12 months.

Alliance and Leicester has conducted a "Moving Improving" poll which has examined what homeowners are willing to do the increase the sale appeal of their homes.

Nearly 40 per cent of homeowners who have sold a property in the past have made improvements to their property to make it more attractive to potential buyers.

Richard Taylor, head of mortgage products at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Even within the current climate, there are still millions of people who are looking to move and they are doing all they can to get the best price for their property."

Mr Taylor explained that, with the housing market slowing down, it is important that homeowners were in tune with what buyers looked for in a property.

According to the survey, the over half of those questioned said that a well maintained property was an important factor that helped to push the buying decision.

The latest figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders showed that mortgage lending had increased in April to 50,700 loans.
