Parents want children to be educated about debt
19th March 2008
Educating children about financial matters is extremely important for many British parents.
A new survey conducted by Engage Mutual Assurance has found that many of the country's mums and dads want their youngsters to have a solid understanding of subjects such as debt (64 per cent) and saving for the future (62 per cent).
Another issue parents consider to be important is the cost of bringing up a family (41 per cent).
Commenting on the findings, Karl Elliott of Engage Mutual Assurance said that it was encouraging to see so many parents concerned about their children's financial awareness.
He explained: "The needs of the modern family are changing and it's important that children are prepared for the financial pressures of adulthood."
The survey also revealed that debt and savings are deemed to be more conversation-worthy than other topics such as sexism (39 per cent), religion (38 per cent) or terrorism (37 per cent).
