Home insurance 'should be reviewed annually'
18th April 2008
Households should make sure they check their level of home insurance cover against their possessions every year to ensure they are adequately covered.
That is the message from Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, who suggested that an annual review is a good way to make sure insurance is appropriate.
"People's possessions change regularly and it is important their insurance cover accurately reflects that," she said.
A recent study from Zurich revealed that 37 per cent of people have no home contents insurance, even though 33 per cent of renters questioned said their possessions were worth more than £10,000.
Anyone with a limited income should judge the level of cover they need in line with what they can afford and prioritise on that basis, Ms Williams said.
"However, the benefits of insurance should be considered as part of their overall household requirements and the cost considered accordingly," she added.
