High street bank scoops best current account award

A high street bank has received an award for its current accounts for the sixth year in a row.
Alliance and Leicester's current accounts won both the Best Current Account Provider (Credit Interest) and Best Current Account Provider (Debit Interest) honours at the annual Moneyfacts Awards.
Commenting on the win, Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester, said: "We are delighted once again to be chosen for these awards - it's really pleasing to be recognised for both for our great credit interest and our zero per cent overdrafts."
Ms Walkley explained that a quarter of their customers had switched their bank account to get a better credit interest rate and 13 per cent had done so to receive a more competitive overdraft deal.
Describing those consumers that are willing to shop around to get the best deals, Ms Walkley, said: "Financially savvy consumers these days know what good value looks like and it is no longer enough for current account providers to simply offer the bare minimum."
